|Bassoonist Benjamin Opp has appeared
with the Rochester Philharmonic, Berkeley West Edge Opera, and the Oakland East Bay,
Stockton, Fremont, Santa Cruz County, and Genesee Symphonies. Ben made his solo
debut with the Stockton Symphony as winner of the Manlio Silva Young Artist Competition at
the age of seventeen, and has since made solo appearances with the Greece Symphony of
Greece, NY and the University of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. Ben has also served on the faculties of California State University at
Stanislaus (Turlock, CA) and San Joaquin Delta College (Stockton, CA) as
Lecturer in Bassoon, and as Bassoon Teaching Assistant at the
Eastman School of Music, (Rochester, NY).
An avid supporter of new music, Ben has taken part in more than ten premieres, including four new works for solo bassoon by Kyle Hovatter.
Ben holds the Master of Music in Performance and Literature and the Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY, under John Hunt, and the Bachelor of Music in Performance, magna cum laude, from the University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA, where he studied both bassoon and saxophone under Don DaGrade and David Granger, and was selected as a winner of the annual Concerto Competition. In 2009, Ben was selected as a New Horizon Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, studying under Nancy Goeres. Ben has also studied at the MasterWorks Festival under Terry Ewell and Matthew Morris.
